Beginner 1 & 2

"If you think dogs can't count, try putting three dog biscuits in your pocket and then give him only two of them."  - Author Phil Pastoret

Beginner 1 Training

The first stage of obedience training typically lasts four weeks and the training is private and at your home. There are several behaviors that we are looking to accomplish, including:

  1. Teaching basic commands such as; "hand target", "sit," "wait," "watch me," and "recall."
  2. Teaching hold and release
  3. Introducing the clicker
  4. Addressing any other concerns the family has at that time
  5. Setting a training plan for success.

Commitment is necessary for a positive start to their learning journey, including the dedication to go over the training your dog receives while being patient, consistent and using the positive reinforcement methods set forth by your trainer. By investing time and effort into training, owners can set their dogs up for a lifetime of good behavior, happiness and an unparalleled companionship.

Beginner 2 Training

  1. Teaching basic commands such as; "down", "heel," "Leave it/Drop it," "stay," and "place."
  2. Continuing with hold and release
  3. Continuing with clicker training
  4. Addressing any other concerns the family has at that time
  5. Strengthening the skills learned Beginner 1.
  6. Begin discussing requirements for AKC Canine Good Citizen Skills Test

Commitment is necessary for continued growth in their learning journey, including the dedication to go over the training your dog receives while being patient, consistent and using the positive reinforcement methods set forth by your trainer. By investing time and effort into training, owners can set their dogs up for a lifetime of good behavior, happiness and an unparalleled companionship.
